| My story
has been colorful and full of adventure. I've been faithful
to the family through cold rainy nights and long winter
storms, warming their home a cooking their meals. The
dump! That's no way to treat an old friend! |
| My story started way back in the 1930's
in the State of Wyoming. Bill Ewel's Dad was one of
the last of the United States Commissioners working
with the State of Wyoming on land grants. By 1932 or
1933, one of the last pieces available for homesteading
was a 640 acres parcel of land located on Camel Back
Mountain, adjacent to the Medicine Bow National Forest.
|
| There would be no more
property available after the Homestead Act ended. It
was a last chance for the family to get a piece of land
from the Government so they grabbed the opportunity.
The Land Act stated a homesteader must make improvements
to legally claim the land, so a cabin was built with
a shed out back. This is where my service to the family
started. |
