SCHOOLS
Cottonwood residents
are proud of the school system they have built
for their young. In Cottonwood, four schools -
East Cottonwood Elementary (Grades K - 4), West
Cottonwood School (grades 5 - 8), Evergreen Elementary
and Evergreen Middle School provide the primary
educational development of students. West Valley
High School, six miles West provides secondary
education as well as Red Bluff High. Fifteen miles
north is Shasta College, which provides two year
vocational training subjects, two year courses
of study for transfer to other universities, and
university extension courses for credit towards
four year degree programs. Simpson College is
also located fifteen miles north in Redding and
Chico State is nearby.
Cottonwood's elementary
schools boast their superior scholastic achievement,
not to mention the excellence of their music and
athletic programs. Cottonwood's elementary school
campus has facilities that most high schools dream
about; they have a full size gymnasium and locker
rooms, tennis courts, football fields, baseball
diamonds and a swim center. West Valley High boasts
a new girls gymnasium, an expanded computer and
science laboratory and a Fine Arts Building for
plays and productions. Plans for a new swimming
pool are almost complete.
